Days of being wild

This is the first movie of 4 I intended to watch... while waiting for a phone call.

Days of being wild took me back to Wong Kar Wai magical film making. This is his second movie.

Days of being wild refers to men seduction over women and the consequences. Note also that the hotel scene shows romm206 key but next scenes show room 204. Why?

My fisrt encounter with Wong Kar Wai was when I saw 2046... I'll get back to this masterpiece in a future post.

My sassy girl (Yeopgijeogin geunyeo)

It comes from a real love story turned into a blog by Ho-sik Kim. An example can be found here. He also turned his original script into Manga.

It was first shown in France on 04/03/13 (J) but the movie was originally released in 2001 and was immediately a massive hit in Asia.

Note that it could only be found in France as a DVD since the US bought the movie for a remake...

Another movie ordered on the web which did not immediately appeal to me. It took me about a full half hour to get caught. It never left me for the 2 remaining hours. And you check the time stamp, I sometimes watch it at night (I just finished watching it).


A sequel called windstruck is available (check IMDB). I haven't seen it yet.

Ferris Bueller by John Hugues

What a foundation movie in the teenage genre!If not one of the best, as it goes deeper than what you see. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (FBDO) all about this rite of passage from teenager to adulthood.

Dodging the authority is like a secret backdoor to escape from your cyclic life (it goes like 'metro, boulot, dodo' in French ; 'Metro, work and sleep'.) and walk away from the standard path of school for a while. The sudden happiness that results from unexpected short time freedom is like a shot of fresh air.

That movie will remain as a contribution and a testimonial of the 80's... Breakfast Club too in a more dramatic approach.

She was and still is an inspirational icon and a very touching actress.
She died 15 years ago.

Mogari no mori by Naomi Kawase

Yesterday, I went (alone) to watch mogari no mori in a small cinema . You can watch the trailer here and here (French). There's more to this movie than a simple story and a road movie. It tells about the meaning of life (listen to the shinto monk) : you are alive if you eat and if you feel alive through the people around you.

I love Japanese movies because of the esthetics (the expression of beauty), the language and the culture. This one surprised me as I did not really like it at first but then it slowly grew on me : as the old man (Shigeki) and the young lady (Machiko) got into the forest, I was caught by the movie as the intensity grew. Shigeki shows the way of love, respect and devotion and Machiko, the way of selfishlessness (is that English?) and dedication.

The first element to catch my attention was the quality of the photo. Hideyo Nakano has a very special eye : sometimes on the move to stress the action and most of times like the eye of God on the human beings, calm and steady. The wind blowing on the green vegetables (gree wheat?) reminded me of my time in the army in 1993, at the back of a truck, the only consolation came from the beauty of nature and countryside...

I found out this morning that the movie won the "grand prix du jury au Festival de Cannes 2007".

One of the best scenes was when the lady removed her top and bra to hold the old man in her arms and make him warm : it was sensual (in a clean way) and very moving as she previously lost her baby. Mogari means "end of mourning" in Japanese.

Another step on the path of understanding the meaning of life and a moment of warmth in a cold world. Another "Food for thought" movie.

Momiji, the "karakara" Japanese mapple

The smooth mapple tree from Japan! Remember my beautiful tree post? Well, the gardener subcontracted by the company offered me to "take cuttings" after I asked questions about the handsome tree.

The photo is my first attempt to turn the cutting into a little tree.
Now, it's all karakara (dried out). Yet my wishes are still alive : never let go until you're sure it's over.
I hope to write a post about this endeavour in a couple weeks from now and show how it revives. Wish E.T. was around! Do you remember the flower scene from 1982? This movie and Star Wars fuelled a generation's dreams and many more.
