What am I reading?

PN was so sick last night. She coughed strong almost every 90 minutes. At 4:30 I planned to get on the couch and finish reading "L'apprenti Japonais" by Frédéric Boilet. That was my second reading. I enjoyed the first half of the book, mainlu focusing on Japan and Japanese women. Small details and the same attraction for Japanese beauty.

Other titles I'd like to read :
Mariko parade
Elles
L'épinard de yukiko

Le Japon quotidien
La mort volontaire au Japon

Nikon D90

I eventually put my hands on MY own Nikon D90... Yet, given a heavy schedule and PN setting a dinner for the departure of our Japanese designer friend, I won't try it until tomorrow evening at best!

Should you need instructions on Nikon D90, check the User Guide written by Ken Rockwell http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d90/users-guide/d90.pdf

This camera is #5 after Coolpix880, D70, D70s,D50... Customer loyalty should always be rewarded ;-)

Squier Fender gets in my family

My nephew had planned this for a while now... Buying a Fender electric guitar with the Squier marque. It's a Squier stratocaster! Different from Telecaster...

Back in the 80's I was dreaming about this guitar and its reversed F logo signature...

PST?

Pacific Standard Time is here http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/usa/pacific-time/

To be remembered!

I sent a message to Wendy and Lisa

Yes, unfair to leave the old continent out of the loop...
I have always wanted to tell how much I love you since I bought my first "wendy and lisa" copy in summer 87. My parentsleft some money for food while they were on holidays but I spent it in Paris' shop 'Fnac' to buy Prince CDs and your first record. It was worth starving.
And after my 8th copy, I am still listening to it with pleasure and tears sometimes.

I almost travelled to LA when your concert in a jazz club was scheduled couple years ago, some time in January or February...

Please try to setup the next session at a more appropriate time for your european fans and you are also very welcome for a concert. Any chance you would visit or play a couple songs in Paris, send an email and I'll be your guide.

How can I ever thank you for all you brought to my world?

Love you both XXXXX

Philippe

The only way to fight anxiety is... ACTION

Again today this principle applied... Even if you don't have time enough to complete, don't get frustration and anxiety stop you from acting. Yuo may not achieve the goal yet you can still complete a substantial percentage of it. And couple % are better than Zero.

It looks simple but it is efficient.

Daydreaming is excellent for your brains

Boy! Back in 1982 as I am listening to Prince's Purple Rain (right now Father's song is playing). As far as I can recall my dad asked me to study the school's brochure during my holidays in order to improve my English.

One note from a teacher, soon to be followed by others, mentioned that the French student is "a daydreamer".

Well, Almost 27 years later (God, playing!) the french magazine Le nouvel Obs proves me right with this article based on a scientific study ran by Kalina Christoff (check the papers at Christofflab).

$700 to become a monk

A very interesting article from Courrier International had a catchy title "700 dollars to become a monk"... Australian head of a non governmental agency, Ben Bowler created www.monkforamonth.com

If I could I would go to Cambodia, Thailand or Japan and try, like my friend Antoine in Cambodia or André in Thailand or with the monks in Meiji Jingu in Harajuku, Tokyo.

French video makes a hit over the internet (not my friend)

This for Antoine... Come back rue Montorgueil for a Beauty Patrol...

e leash?

Are we 'kept in leash' as we use mobile phones? This is the main reaction to an article published in Libération about a monthly mobile service subscription for poor people (€10/month). The article is entitled "it is discriminating not to have a mobile"...

You can check the French article here

Given that my mobile became :
  • a communication mean whether voice centric or verbose (text messages and MMS)
  • a contact vault
  • a secondary camera for pictures (8MP max, for now) and video
  • a secondary audio (MP3/MP4/AAC)
  • a secondary video player (H264)
  • a secondary and limited game station
  • a convenient storage
  • a wireless remote control
  • anything else?

A real Nikon specialist... Choulan

When I got my Nikon D70 I wondered how many pictures I took. As I browsed the internet to find answers, I downloaded ShootNum. This software gave the answers I was looking for. That software has been developed by Choulan.

You can check the following pages in french:

It’s not having what you want, it’s wanting what you have

Fantastic wildlife photographer,Moose Peterson, is quoting Sheryl Crow from her "Soak up the sun" song in a very interesting post from his blog about Nikon D3 vs Nikon D3X... I found it while searching for D2X information as the choice narrows (!) down to :
  • D90 : cool, cheapest and very convenient but SD & DX. About €850
  • D300 : highest range in DX format, CF but DX. About €1350
  • D700 : best compromise yet need to change lense system from Nikkor DX to Nikkor FX About €2200
  • D3 : Best in all classes yet, close to D3X, double CF but far too expensive and Nikkor FX needed. About €4000 or above €3000 as second hand
  • D2X : second hand, 10K shots on 150K, 5 years old (end 2004)

Check his blog http://www.moosenewsblog.com/ and his web site http://www.moosepeterson.com/home.html

I loved my D70 which was my best companion on my first trip to Japan, loved the D70s despite its trigger problem (fixed for free by Nikon under warranty, 2 weeks before the end of it) and still find useful the D50 (despite horrible SD limited to 2GB). But they lack speed and low light quality and 6MP cannot comply with publishing.

The best camera is the one that's with you

Chase Jarvis is just right. Too bad I kind of gave up taking pictures everyday since I lost my little SONY T100... Yet I found my new camera : I'll take my outdated D50 with the Nikon 18-70@3,5-5,6 or the Sigma 18-50@2,8DC. I tried it couple times on the weekends. It works though it outsizes a slim iPhone definitely.

Back to Chase Jarvis who basically takes his iPhone as an instant camera anywhere he goes. He also writes a blog http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/

Visit his iPhone pictures gallery by browsing http://www.chasejarvis.com/ then PORTFOLIOS then IPHONE AS ART

Excellent concept and very good sense of marketing at times iPhone is the new fab.

Your data is their possession

Read this French newspaper's article form Libération! We should be glad 'the consumerist' exists to protect us by revealing situations such as this move from Facebook!

Read it in English in the Chicago Tribune here and in the NY Times!

I remember what BBG told me "this is a commercial world out there". She was damn right about that too!

'I chose to help people'

Working for Support and Customer Satsufaction appeared to me as quite obvious for me back in 97. Today, a customer had me notice 'you chose to help people, that's obviously your calling'.

Looks like with my latests endeavours to help with humanitarian projects and microfinance, that is clearly my choice...
